Pantry Chats with Ashley Rosemeyer

Ashley portrait

Next up in our Pantry Chats series, we had the pleasure of talking to Ashley Rosemeyer. Ashley (aka “Thrashley Photo") is a photographer from the East Coast, who decided she wanted to shoot snowboarding when she was just 16. Since then, she's worked with a whopping list of high-end snowboarding clientele, including Burton, The North Face, Union, and The Uninvited crew; as well as scoring the position of terrain park photographer at Sugarbush Resort in Vermont.

As we found out in this chat, she doesn't like to take the "traditional route". Instead, she approaches each new shoot with a mindset of "Can I climb that tree maybe? Or get on that roof? I'm always trying to find a new angle". It doesn't always work out — she's actually had her head split open getting a bit too close with a fish-eye lens — but more often than not she comes away with creative and original photographs.

She's also doing her bit for the snowboarding culture by going out of her way to document often-ignored fellow female riders, and she tells us more about working with the G.O.A.T. Jess Kimura, and the troublesome "female quota" that too often exists in our industry and beyond. We talked about the power of putting yourself out there, her methods of dealing with jerks, and the difficulties she's overcome since starting out in the industry.

Her advice: "be true to yourself, and stop apologising so much."

For more woman to woman advice, behind-the-scenes insights, and hints at upcoming projects, check out the full Pantry Chat video. Make sure to watch to the end to catch our "3am Questions" with Ashley — a quick fire round to get to know the real Ashley Rosemeyer. After some serious debate on toilet paper, spiders, and ice cream flavours, we touched on some unspoken events in the industry and can safely say that as well as an incredibly talented photographer, Ashley's a dope human being with some eye-opening perspectives.

Thanks again to Ashley for taking the time to chat with us; we loved hearing your stories and words of wisdom. If you want to support Ashley, look out for her future collaborations by following her on IG. She's got something exciting coming up this spring, so watch out.
